Merry Christmas!

Truly this is the most wonderful time of the year. Our weather is beautiful, our hearts are prepared in various ways to meet the Lord and many of us gather to celebrate the Nativity of Our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ. I am blessed to have my mom and a few family members join me for Christmas here at St. Joan of Arc. As a priest and now parochial administrator, the commute to the rural towns is tough after many liturgical celebrations during the Christmas season. Turns out, I get tired once in a while.

I am never too tired to earth so I am looking forward to her tamales and family dinner. My sincere hope is that you all gather joyfully with your family. Our family traditions included the Christmas novena known as Las Posadas and then attending the Vigil Christmas Mass. Then the next morning we gathered at Nana Chana’s for tamales, food and playing in the yard with new toys and visiting my cousins, aunts and uncles. I am painfully aware that this Christmas may be difficult for many who have lost loved ones. In the midst of this sorrow, Christ’s radiant joy of His birth has the power to overcome sorrow with joy. Be at peace knowing you have a church family that gathers as the popular hymn proclaims: “All ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!”

This is another reason for this being my favorite season, the Christmas carols! My top three are “Of the Father’s Love Begotten,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and my favorite Christmas carol of all is “O Holy Night.” This carol appears four times with different choirs & famous music artists in my Advent/Christmas playlist. The description of this Holy Night brings us beautifully into this season. The build up with the refrain: “Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born!” Love the variations of this melody.

DE ADMINISTRADORA PAROCHIAL PADRE CRUZ

¡Feliz navidad!

Verdaderamente esta es la época más maravillosa del año. Nuestro clima es hermoso, nuestros corazones están preparados de diversas maneras para encontrarnos con el Señor y muchos de nosotros nos reunimos para celebrar la Natividad de Nuestro Bendito Señor Jesucristo. Tengo la suerte de que mi mamá y algunos miembros de mi familia me acompañen en Navidad aquí en St. Joan of Arc. Como sacerdote y ahora administrador parroquial, el viaje a los pueblos rurales es difícil después de muchas celebraciones litúrgicas durante la temporada navideña. Resulta que de vez en cuando me canso. Nunca estoy demasiado cansada, así que espero con ansias sus tamales y su cena familiar. Mi más sincera esperanza es que todos os reunáis alegremente con vuestra familia. Nuestras tradiciones familiares incluían la novena navideña conocida como Las Posadas y luego asistir a la Misa de Vigilia Navideña. Luego, a la mañana siguiente nos reunimos en Nana Chana para comer tamales, otras comidas y jugar en el patio trasero con juguetes nuevos y visitar a mis primos, tías y tíos. Soy dolorosamente consciente de que esta Navidad puede ser difícil para muchos que han perdido a seres queridos. En medio de este dolor, el gozo radiante de Cristo por su nacimiento tiene el poder de superar el dolor con gozo. Estén en paz sabiendo que tienen una familia de la iglesia que se reúne mientras proclama el himno popular: “¡Todos fieles, gozosos y triunfantes!”

Esta es otra razón por la que esta es mi estación favorita, ¡las canciones navideñas! Mis tres canciones favoritas en inglés son "Of the Father's Love Begotten", "O Come All Ye Faithful" y mi villancico favorito de todos es "O Holy Night". Esta canción aparece cuatro veces con diferentes coros y artistas musicales famosos en mi lista de Adviento/Navidad. La descripción de esta Noche Santa nos introduce maravillosamente en esta temporada. La preparación se completa con el estribillo: “¡Arrodíllate, oh escucha las voces de los ángeles! ¡Oh noche divina, oh noche en que nació Cristo! Me encantan las variaciones de esta melodía.
