Happy Lent!

This penitential season contains so many blessings in the ordinary life of the church. Several members of our community will receive some attention and many blessings. Beginning the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays in lent you will notice the newly “Elect” receive three successive rites called “the Scrutinies.” The themes connect closely with the Gospel readings for Mass on Sunday.

During these readings we use the passages from St. John’s Gospel for these Sundays and we plan to give a notice at the Mass to participate in the Lumen Christi Missal. For centuries, the Church in her wisdom has allowed us to unpack the Sacred Scripture of St. John to show the powerful and hidden transformation God accomplishes in the Elect through these thematic Scrutinies.

Many years of living permitted this moment in time to emphasize repentance and conversion by offering faith, hope and charity. When we enter the dark church at Easter Vigil, we follow the Light of Christ in a vivid way and to be reminded that Christ comes to pierce the darkness of our intellects and hearts tainted by the stain of sin and to bring life where there was death and darkness. In this process, you will see the Elect with their sponsors praying for them by culminating with a prayer of exorcism, which is cleansing and a protection to enter into the sacramental life of the church.

Each Sunday is a step in preparing for that glorious celebration and initiation coming soon. The Scrutinies are a loving response of the Church to offer a close look at God’s ways. What better way to be scrutinized by the Divine Light and Good Shepherd of our Lord Jesus Christ revealing all this good, true and beautiful within our Elect. He reveals His Divine Love to us and invites us to pray for the Elect during this lenten season. As we pray, we are reminded of our own sorrows, sickness, sinfulness and brokenness. We have a home of healing and encounter with Divine Mercy. Our Holy Mother Church will be a place of healing and new life.

My prayer is that you will be inspired by these Scrutinies of our Elect and call each and everyone of you into the living waters of baptism, to the light of holiness and to new life in the Resurrected Jesus Christ!

¡Feliz Cuaresma!

Este tiempo penitencial contiene muchas bendiciones en la vida ordinaria de la iglesia. Varios miembros de nuestra comunidad recibirán atención y muchas bendiciones. A partir del tercer, cuarto y quinto domingo de cuaresma, notará que los nuevos "elegidos" reciben tres ritos sucesivos llamados "los Escrutinios". Los temas se conectan estrechamente con las lecturas del Evangelio para la misa del domingo. Durante estas lecturas utilizamos los pasajes del Evangelio de San Juan de estos domingos y planeamos dar un aviso en la Misa para participar en el Misal Lumen Christi. Durante siglos, la Iglesia en su sabiduría nos ha permitido desentrañar la Sagrada Escritura de San Juan para mostrar la poderosa y oculta transformación que Dios realiza en los Elegidos a través de estos Escrutinios temáticos. Muchos años de vida permitieron que este momento enfatizara el arrepentimiento y la conversión ofreciendo fe, esperanza y caridad. Cuando entramos a la iglesia oscura en la Vigilia Pascual, seguimos la Luz de Cristo de una manera vívida y recordamos que Cristo viene a traspasar la oscuridad de nuestros intelectos y corazones contaminados por la mancha del pecado y a traer vida donde había muerte. y oscuridad. En este proceso verás a los Elegidos con sus padrinos orando por ellos culminando con una oración de exorcismo, que es de limpieza y protección para entrar a la vida sacramental de la iglesia. Cada domingo es un paso en la preparación para esa gloriosa celebración e iniciación que pronto llegará. Los Escrutinios son una respuesta amorosa de la Iglesia para ofrecer una mirada cercana a los caminos de Dios. Qué mejor manera de ser escudriñados por la Luz Divina y Buen Pastor de nuestro Señor Jesucristo revelando todo esto bueno, verdadero y hermoso que hay dentro de nuestros Elegidos. Él nos revela Su Divino Amor y nos invita a orar por los Elegidos durante este tiempo de cuaresma. Mientras oramos, recordamos nuestros propios dolores, enfermedades, pecaminosidad y quebrantamiento. Tenemos un hogar de sanación y encuentro con la Divina Misericordia. Nuestra Santa Madre Iglesia será un lugar de sanación y vida nueva.

¡Mi oración es que sean inspirados por estos Escrutinios de nuestros Elegidos y los llamen a todos y cada uno de ustedes a las aguas vivas del bautismo, a la luz de la santidad y a la nueva vida en Jesucristo Resucitado!
