Happy Easter!

One memory from the Easter celebration as a child comes from the “new fire” of the Easter Vigil. So much precaution was taken that our local fire department was on standby. This large bonfire served its purpose by dispelling the darkness and lighting up the night. This “new fire” then becomes the source of light for the central and symbolic Paschal Candle because it represents the risen Lord in His glory. Our paschal candle will be lit throughout the Easter season until Pentecost.

The greatest week of the year is the Octave of Easter, meaning the eight-day celebration that prolongs the glories of the Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. Each day of the week will be celebrated with six days called “within the octave.” The eight day culminates with Divine Mercy Sunday on April 7th!

Here at Saint Joan of Arc Parish, we will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the main church after the Spanish Mass. The chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed in Spanish at 2pm and English at 3pm. During this time, confessions will be offered from 2pm-4pm. Come on back to the church and adore Him and come to confession. Please continue to celebrate the supreme moments of the Easter season in celebration of our Risen Lord, the Incarnate Word, glorified in the flesh, triumphant over the mortality of that flesh.

As Pope Saint John Paul II said the year I was born at an Angelus address to the world: “We live in the light of His Paschal Mystery - the mystery of His Death and Resurrection. We are an Easter People and Alleluia is our song!”

Felices Pascuas!

Un recuerdo de la celebración de la Pascua cuando era niño proviene del “fuego nuevo” de la Vigilia Pascual. Se tomaron tantas precauciones que nuestro departamento de bomberos local estaba en alerta. Esta gran hoguera cumplió su propósito al disipar la oscuridad e iluminar la noche. Este “fuego nuevo” se convierte entonces en la fuente de luz del Cirio Pascual central y simbólico porque representa al Señor resucitado en su gloria. Nuestro cirio pascual estará encendido durante todo el tiempo pascual hasta Pentecostés.

La semana más grande del año es la Octava de Pascua, es decir, la celebración de ocho días que prolonga las glorias de la Resurrección de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo. Cada día de la semana se celebrará con seis días llamados “dentro de la octava”. ¡El octavo día culmina con el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia el 7 de abril!

Aquí en la Parroquia Santa Juana de Arco, tendremos la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento en la iglesia principal después de la Misa en español. La coronilla de la Divina Misericordia se rezará en español a las 2 p. m. y en inglés a las 3 p. m. Durante este tiempo, se ofrecerán confesiones de 2:00 p. m. a 4:00 p. m. Vuelve a la iglesia, adóralo y confesate. Continúen celebrando los momentos supremos del tiempo pascual en celebración de nuestro Señor Resucitado, el Verbo Encarnado, glorificado en la carne, triunfante sobre la mortalidad de esa carne.

Como dijo el Papa San Juan Pablo II el año de mi nacimiento en un discurso del Ángelus al mundo: “Vivimos a la luz de su Misterio Pascual, el misterio de su Muerte y Resurrección. ¡Somos un Pueblo de Pascua y Aleluya es nuestra canción!”

¡Cristo ha resucitado! ¡Aleluya! ¡Aleluya!
