Happy Sunday!

Habemus papam! We have a Pope as of May 8th and he is Leo XIV from Chicago, USA! As I was driving down the 51 the announcement was made and for the first time in my life, I was able to know and understand the announcement in its entirety and be filled with so much joy as an American pope was selected to be the Vicar of Christ and take on the Chair of Peter. Truly a remarkable gift to the entire church and world.

Later that night I was able to see the initial footage with all the facial expressions, cheers, the words and the blessing to the world. An Augustinian priest has inspired me to return to the Confessions of Saint Augustine. On the coat of arms of Pope Leo XIV you will find a closed book with a pierced heart by an arrow. This is St. Augustine’s experience of conversion as he said: “You pierced my heart with your Word” more famously said Vulnerasti cor meum verbo tuo. We can’t forget about his motto: In illo uno unum. St. Augustine again during a sermon on Psalm 127 preaches “although we Christians are many, in the one Christ we are one.” As the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV leads our Catholic Church, let’s be reminded of the white Fleur de lis on a blue background associating our Blessed Virgin Mary to be a model of humility and a central part in our pilgrimage to our Eternal Homeland. May our Holy Father Pope Leo XIV be granted an abundance of wisdom, knowledge and love to be able to exercise the Office of the Papacy to teach, govern and sanctify!

¡Feliz domingo!

¡Habemus papam! ¡Tenemos Papa a partir del 8 de mayo, y es León XIV de Chicago, de Estados Unidos! Mientras conducía por la autopista 51, se hizo el anuncio y, por primera vez en mi vida, pude conocerlo y comprenderlo en su totalidad y sentir una inmensa alegría al ver que un papa estadounidense era elegido Vicario de Cristo y ocupar la Cátedra de Pedro. Un regalo verdaderamente extraordinario para toda la Iglesia y el mundo.

Más tarde esa noche, pude ver las primeras imágenes con todas las expresiones faciales, los vítores, las palabras y la bendición para el mundo. Un sacerdote agustino me ha inspirado a volver a las Confesiones de San Agustín. En el escudo de armas del Papa León XIV se encuentra un libro cerrado con un corazón traspasado por una flecha. Esta es la experiencia de conversión de San Agustín, cuando dijo: “Me traspasaste el corazón con tu Palabra”, su famosa frase: Vulnerasti cor meum verbo tuo. No podemos olvidar su lema: In illo uno unum. San Agustín, durante un sermón sobre el Salmo 127, predica: “Aunque los cristianos somos muchos, en un solo Cristo somos uno.” Mientras el Santo Padre, el Papa León XIV, guía nuestra Iglesia Católica, recordemos la flor de lis blanca sobre fondo azul que asocia a nuestra Santísima Virgen María como modelo de humildad y parte central de nuestra peregrinación hacia la Patria Eterna. ¡Que nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa León XIV, reciba abundante sabiduría, conocimiento y amor para ejercer el oficio del Papado de enseñar, gobernar y santificar!
