Happy Sunday!

Today you may have noticed the red priest and deacon vestments at Mass. This is because we are offering a Votive Mass dedicated to the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. The feast was established while Pope Pius IX was in exile during the Italian War in 1849. This particular devotion was suggested to invoke the heavenly aid of God to end the war and bring peace in Rome. Shortly after declaring the feast, the war ended.

Although we do not see this feast on the calendar anymore, we are given the option of celebrating a Votive Mass to contemplate the outpouring of the Precious of Blood of Jesus for humanity’s salvation. Let’s continue to pray for peace in our world that the Blood of Jesus becomes a font of mercy that leads humanity to eternal life.

Blood of Christ, most worthy of all glory and honor, save us!

Hoy quizás hayan notado las vestimentas rojas de los sacerdotes y diáconos en la Misa. Esto se debe a que estamos ofreciendo una Misa Votiva dedicada a la Preciosísima Sangre de Jesucristo. La festividad se estableció durante el exilio del Papa Pío IX, durante la Guerra de Italia en 1849. Esta devoción particular se sugirió para invocar la ayuda celestial de Dios para poner fin a la guerra y traer la paz a Roma. Poco después de declararse la festividad, la guerra terminó.

Aunque ya no vemos esta festividad en el calendario, tenemos la opción de celebrar una Misa Votiva para contemplar el derramamiento de la Preciosísima Sangre de Jesús por la salvación de la humanidad. Sigamos orando por la paz en nuestro mundo para que la Sangre de Jesús se convierta en una fuente de misericordia que lleve a la humanidad a la vida eterna.
