Happy Divine Mercy Sunday!

One of the most impactful moments of my life revolved around my first experience of Divine Mercy through praying the chaplet. The beautiful and meditative words “for the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world” resonates with those who hear this prayer. The image of the Divine Mercy helps us receive those words and offer them for our loved ones.

My Aunt Lisa had a devotion to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy towards the end of her life. It became familiar in her house and prayer life. I was in the room when we prayed during her last breath with my grandma (her mother), my uncle (her husband), and daughters. I love this line from St. Faustina’s diary when He told her:

“At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person, the pardon is the same. When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, God’s anger is placated, unfathomable mercy envelops the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion of My Son.” (811)

This is the most powerful promise from her diary and it took many years for me to realize this impact on dying souls. The bedside of a dying person is a time of prayerful devotion to the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Please try and encourage a final confession, Holy Communion, and the Last Anointing for you or your loved ones. And when the priest leaves, continue to pray and make the room as sacred as possible. Domingo De La Divina Misericordia

¡Feliz Domingo de la Divina Misericordia!

Uno de los momentos más impactantes de mi vida giró en torno a mi primera experiencia de la Divina Misericordia a través del rezo de la coronilla. Las hermosas y meditativas palabras “por su dolorosa pasión, ten piedad de nosotros y del mundo entero” resuenan en quienes escuchan esta oración. La imagen de la Divina Misericordia nos ayuda a recibir esas palabras y ofrecerlas por nuestros seres queridos. Mi tía Lisa tuvo devoción a la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia hacia el final de su vida. Se volvió familiar en su casa y en su vida de oración. Yo estaba en la habitación cuando oramos durante su último aliento con mi abuela (su madre), mi tío (su esposo) y mis hijas. Me encanta esta línea del diario de Santa Faustina cuando Él le dijo:

“En la hora de su muerte, defiendo como Mi propia gloria a cada alma que rece esta coronilla; o cuando otros lo dicen por un moribundo, el perdón es el mismo. Cuando se reza esta coronilla junto al lecho de un moribundo, la ira de Dios se aplaca, la misericordia insondable envuelve el alma y las profundidades mismas de Mi tierna misericordia se conmueven por la dolorosa Pasión de Mi Hijo”. (811)

Esta es la promesa más poderosa de su diario y me tomó muchos años darme cuenta de este impacto en las almas moribundas. El lecho de una persona moribunda es un momento de devoción al Santo Rosario y la Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia. Intente fomentar una confesión final, la Sagrada Comunión y la Última Unción para usted o sus seres queridos. Y cuando el sacerdote se vaya, continúa orando y haz que la habitación sea lo más sagrada posible.
