Happy Sunday!

This weekend our high schoolers are on retreat in Prescott, AZ. Our youth minister, Mac Coomer, has done a great job with our teens this year and we’re grateful about 30 teens are together this weekend to grow closer to the Lord. Please pray for a safe journey back to Phoenix today and continued fruits from their weekend away.

On Friday we had our second Fish Fry of the year. Thank you so much to everyone who helped and everyone who came and enjoyed a wonderful meal! It seems like it gets better every year! We are always in need of volunteers to help the operation go smoothly and run efficiently. If you are interested in helping we would be glad to have you. As a reminder, all volunteers need to be up to date on their Safe Environment Training. If you have questions about that please feel free to contact the parish office.

You might have noticed if you walk down the hall towards the confessional a new painting has been hung up outside the Stritch Sacristy. It is a hand painted replica of Cristoforo Roncalli’s “The Punishment of Ananias and Sapphira”. The original hangs in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome outside the sacristy at what is commonly called “The Altar of the Lie”. One tour guide comments on it as follows: “This altarpiece depicts the story in the Acts of the Apostles of the couple punished for withholding money that they had promised to the apostles and for lying to St. Peter. It is purposefully placed in front of the priest as he leaves the sacristy to celebrate Mass, a permanent reminder to him that he is called to give himself entirely to God and be a servant to His people, and woe to the priest who selfishly withholds from his promise!” If you get a chance I invite you to walk down the hallway and observe the painting. It is a beautiful reminder not only for priests and those who serve at Mass, but for all Christians.

I am excited to say that there will be a few more works of art added to the Church in coming weeks. These works will also be replicas of famous pieces of art and will hang to the left and right of St. Joseph in his alcove. When they are available I will update you and share the stories behind those paintings as well.

Feliz domingo!

Este fin de semana, nuestros estudiantes de secundaria están de retiro en Prescott, AZ. Nuestro ministro de jóvenes, Mac Coomer, ha hecho un gran trabajo con nuestros jóvenes este año y estamos agradecidos de que 30 jóvenes estén juntos este fin de semana para acercarse más al Señor. Oren por un viaje seguro de regreso a Phoenix hoy y que continúen los frutos de su fin de semana fuera.

El viernes tuvimos nuestro segundo Pescado Frito del año. ¡Muchas gracias a todos los que ayudaron y a todos los que vinieron y disfrutaron de una comida maravillosa! ¡Parece que mejora cada año! Siempre necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar a que la operación funcione sin problemas y de manera eficiente. Si está interesado en ayudar, ¡estaremos encantados de contar con usted! Como recordatorio, todos los voluntarios deben estar al día en su Capacitación de Ambiente Seguro. Si tiene preguntas al respecto, no dude en comunicarse con la oficina parroquial.

Es posible que haya notado si camina por el pasillo hacia el confesionario, se ha colgado una nueva pintura afuera de la Sacristía Stritch. Es una réplica pintada a mano de “El castigo de Ananías y Safira” de Cristoforo Roncalli. El original cuelga en la Basílica de San Pedro en Roma fuera de la sacristía en lo que comúnmente se llama "El Altar de la Mentira". Un guía turístico lo comenta así: “Este retablo recoge la historia de los Hechos de los Apóstoles de la pareja castigada por retener el dinero que habían prometido a los apóstoles y por mentir a San Pedro. Se coloca intencionalmente frente al sacerdote cuando sale de la sacristía para celebrar la Misa, un recordatorio permanente para él de que está llamado a entregarse por completo a Dios y ser un siervo de su pueblo, y ¡ay del sacerdote que se niega egoístamente a su promesa!” Si tienes la oportunidad, te invito a caminar por el pasillo y observar la pintura. Es un hermoso recordatorio no solo para los sacerdotes y los que sirven en la Misa, pero para todos los cristianos.

Me emociona decir que se agregarán algunas obras de arte más a la Iglesia en las próximas semanas. Estas obras también serán réplicas de obras de arte famosas y estarán colgadas a izquierda y derecha de San José en su alcoba. Cuando estén disponibles, los actualizaré y también compartiré las historias detrás de esas pinturas.
