Happy Sunday!

Another week gone and our painting is coming along very nicely! It’s incredible to see the simple transformation our parish is undergoing with a fresh coat of paint and a new color scheme in different areas. You might notice most acutely in the narthex. As the painters continue their work in the church you’ll of course notice the difference in the ceiling. Please pray for a successful completion of this project before Ash Wednesday.

Last Saturday our children preparing for their First Communion and Confirmation had their retreat. It was an excellent day. I am so grateful to Laura Gallant, our Coordinator of Religious Education, and her team of catechists for putting on such a splendid day. We are blessed to have an excellent group of catechists who really invest in our young people. If you are interested in joining this wonderful group, we not only need catechists but other volunteers to assist catechists, help with hospitality, and some administrative tasks. Please reach out to Laura if you are interested in helping. We can always use more support.

Last weekend you heard me tell the story of the Martyrs of Compiegne. These were a group of French Carmelite women who were martyred during the French Revolution. If you are interested in reading more about their story I recommend William Bush’s book “To Quell the Terror”. I first read about them in a book called “Rethinking the Enlightenment” by Joseph Stuart. Stuart’s book is an excellent analysis of the Enlightenment, what happened, and what was going on in the Catholic Enlightenment at the same time. Finally, if you aren’t so much a reader, another way to learn about them is from an opera based on their story called “Dialogues of the Carmelites”, originally in French but available in English. These courageous women offer a beautiful example for each of us.

¡Feliz domingo!

¡Ha pasado otra semana y nuestra pintura va muy bien! Es increíble ver la transformación simple que está experimentando nuestra parroquia con una nueva capa de pintura y un nuevo esquema de colores en diferentes áreas. Es posible que lo notes más agudamente en el narthex. A medida que los pintores continúan su trabajo en la iglesia, por supuesto notarás la diferencia en el techo. Por favor, oren por la finalización exitosa de este proyecto antes del Miércoles de Ceniza.

El sábado pasado, nuestros niños que se preparaban para su Primera Comunión y Confirmación tuvieron su retiro. Fue un día excelente. Estoy muy agradecida con Laura Gallant, nuestra Coordinadora de Educación Religiosa, y su equipo de catequistas por haber organizado un día tan espléndido. Somos bendecidos de tener un excelente grupo de catequistas que realmente invierten en nuestros jóvenes. Si está interesado en unirse a este maravilloso grupo, no solo necesitamos catequistas, pero también otros voluntarios para ayudar a los catequistas, ayudar con la hospitalidad y algunas tareas administrativas. Comuníquese con Laura si está interesado en ayudar. Siempre podemos usar más apoyo.

El fin de semana pasado, me escucharon contar la historia de los Mártires de Compiegne. Se trataba de un grupo de mujeres carmelitas francesas que fueron martirizadas durante la Revolución Francesa.
