Happy Sunday!

Today I am leaving for my annual silent retreat and will be gone until the middle of next week. Every priest is asked to take a retreat each year. A retreat is a time for us to heed the Lord’s invitation to, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31).

Jesus himself took time to be with his Father in prayer and this is the same thing priests do while on retreat. I will be heading to a retreat center in the mountains of Honduras where a Franciscan (CFR) priest will be my director for the duration of the retreat. This typically means I will meet with him once a day to talk about what the Lord is doing in my life and during prayer while on the retreat. It will be nice to completely unplug from email, internet, phone, etc. Please keep me in your prayers while I am gone for a fruitful and rejuvenating retreat.

Tuesday, November 1, is the Solemnity of All Saints. This is a holy day of obligation which means the Church invites us to treat it as a Sunday and attend Mass. Not only do we attend Mass but it is also a good day to celebrate in other ways. This could mean spending extra time in prayer. It could also mean having a special meal or dessert. Our Mass schedule will be: October 31 at 6pm (Vigil Mass) November 1 at 8:30am and 6pm.

¡Feliz domingo!

Hoy me voy a mi retiro anual de silencio y estaré fuera hasta mediados de la próxima semana. A cada sacerdote se le pide que haga un retiro cada año. Un retiro es un momento para que prestemos atención a la invitación del Señor: “Vengan solos a un lugar desierto y descansen un poco” (Marcos 6:31). Jesús mismo tomó tiempo para estar con su Padre en oración y esto es lo mismo que hacen los sacerdotes durante el retiro. Me dirigiré a un centro de retiro en las montañas de Honduras donde un sacerdote franciscano (CFR) será mi director durante la duración del retiro. Esto generalmente significa que me reuniré con él una vez al día para hablar sobre lo que el Señor está haciendo en mi vida y durante la oración durante el retiro. Será bueno desconectarse por completo del correo electrónico, Internet, teléfono, etc. Por favor, manténganme en sus oraciones mientras estoy fuera para un retiro fructífero y rejuvenecedor.

El martes 1 de noviembre es la Solemnidad de Todos los Santos. Este es un día santo de obligación, lo que significa que la Iglesia nos invita a tratarlo como un domingo y asistir a Misa. No sólo asistimos a la Misa, pero que también es un buen día para celebrar de otras maneras. Esto podría significar pasar más tiempo en oración. También podría significar tener una comida o postre especial. Nuestro horario de Misas será: 31 de Octubre a las 6 de la tarde (Misa de Vigilia), 1 de Noviembre a las 8:30 de la mañana y 6 de la tarde.
