5th Sunday of Lent

Happy Sunday!

This weekend we celebrate the Third Scrutiny in preparation for our catechumens to be baptized, confirmed, and receive Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare to be welcomed into the Church. We are grateful to God for them! This Friday will be our last Stations of the Cross in the main Church at 7pm. Please join us for this wonderful Lenten practice. Last week we published the schedule for the Triduum liturgies in the bulletin. Please refer back to that for a list of times for confessions and liturgies.

The entrance antiphon this Sunday, for the Fifth Week of Lent says this, “Give me justice, O God, and plead my cause against a nation that is faithless. From the deceitful and cunning rescue me, for you, O God, are my strength.” This antiphon is taken from the beginning of Psalm 43 and it's striking because it speaks to the great need for abandonment to God the Father. In it, the psalmist asks God to “plead my cause.” How often we are tempted to plead our own cause and yet the Scriptures always teach us how to pray. It is God who is our defender and advocate. He is the one who can fight a faithless enemy.

Throughout Lent we’ve engaged in spiritual practices to fortify ourselves. This fortification has been to increase our dependence on God who gives abundantly to his children. As we continue this journey, we entrust ourselves once more to the heavenly Father that He may plead our cause and we may find shelter in Him.

Have a great week! Know of my prayers for each of you!

¡Feliz domingo!

P. Connealy
