Feast of St. Matthew: Sep 21

Happy Sunday!

Our Verso l’Alto youth group got off to a great start this past week. It was great to see so many of our high school students present for the first night of the semester. I am incredibly grateful to our core team of volunteers who helped make the night such a success. This week we begin our religious education classes for the new year. Please keep all of our families and students in your prayers as they begin this year of preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.

Last week we had new air conditioning units installed in Weidner Hall and the parish office. Because of COVID-19 the process was greatly delayed in getting approval and finally receiving the units. We are grateful that it has happened even though it's now September. We used designated funds from the Together Let Us Go Forth Campaign to pay for this project. As I mentioned before, one of the units was original to the building so with the new unit we look forward to more efficient use of energy.

On Monday this week we celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew. One of my favorite paintings is “The Calling of St. Matthew” by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Caravaggio is the master of the chiaroscuro technique which emphasizes the contrast of light and darkness. In this painting the source of light comes from Jesus as he points at St. Matthew, extending an invitation to follow Him.

Know of my prayers for each of you and have a great week!

In Christ,
Fr. Connealy

¡Feliz domingo!

P. Connealy
