Holy Week

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On this Palm Sunday we have begun the Holy Week in which we celebrate the sacred mysteries of our salvation by Christ's final days on earth. Today we start with his triumphant entrance into the Jerusalem. The solemn procession at the beginning of Mass is re-enacted by us through the sacramental of blessed palms carried by us, the beloved children of God.

The Lenten season concludes this Thursday and the Easter Triduum begins. The Mass of the Lord's Supper is celebrated on the evening of Thursday at 7:00 PM (Bilingual) followed by Eucharistic Adoration at an altar of repose until midnight. In this liturgy, Christ takes his disciples into the upper room for the Passover. Then we accompany him to the garden of Gethsemane and then we follow him to his bitter passion.

On Good Friday, we continue to follow his sorrowful path to Calvary that leads to his death on the cross. We gather as an expression of human grief and mourning, but with the Catholic gifts of faith and hope. The Celebration of the Passion of the Lord gives us a greater confidence and hope in the one Redeemer and Savior of our Lord Jesus Christ. From this evening we wait in solemn vigil until he rises again in his glorious body. Live Stations of Cross begin at 2:00pm, the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord starts at 3:00pm in English and 7:00pm in Spanish.

Joyfully, the high point of the liturgical year, we celebrate with the great Easter Eucharist, the source and summit of the Catholic faith and life of God's people. The solemn and first Mass of Easter is celebrated at 8:00 PM (Bilingual) on Saturday followed by Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord at 6:30 AM (Eng), 8:30 AM (Eng), 10:30 AM (Eng) and 12:30 PM (Spa).

May you have a blessed and fruitful Holy Triduum!

In Christ,

P. Daniel Cruz
