In the News: Planned Parenthood

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Planned Parenthood has been in the news a lot lately. I thought it might be a good idea to look at some of the roots of this very influential organization. Planned Parenthood was established by Margaret Sanger who held some very controversial views. Here is just one example: “The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.” - Margaret Sanger (editor). (The Woman Rebel, Volume I, Number 1. Reprinted in Woman and the New Race. New York: Brentanos Publishers, 1922.)

Given that Planned Parenthood claims to be a pro-family organization this seems like a clear contradiction. However, a closer view of Planned Parenthood reveals that things may actually be other than they seem. Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortions in the world. According to their own reporting, they killed 327,653 babies through abortion in 2014. That does not include the more than 1,440,495 “emergency contraceptives” that they also offered that same year.

The reality is that this radical anti-life and anti-family position is fully consistent with their founder's vision. As the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger wanted to destroy the connection between marital sexuality and children. Her views espoused sexual activity without consequences or responsibility. She claimed that "[Our objective is] unlimited sexual gratification without the burden of unwanted children." Her credo of women's rights was "to live ... to love ... to be lazy ... to be an unmarried mother ... to create ... to destroy." She once stated that "The marriage bed is the most degenerative influence in the social order. " (Margaret Sanger. Woman and the New Race. Brentanos, 1922, p. 161.)

Sanger's anti-life and anti-family philosophy has been effectively passed down to Planned Parenthood as it continues to this day. Planned Parenthood has now become a multibillion-dollar business. In 2014 they reported $1,727,000,000 in total assets. They also received $528.4 million of tax money from the government. (p. 21 Planned Parenthood Annual Report.) That is over a half a billion dollars from taxpayers. Now we find out that they are also possibly involved in the illegal harvesting body parts from the unborn children they abort.

Perhaps it is not possible to shut down Planned Parenthood, but should we stand and allow this organization to use our tax money to fund their radical agenda and the destruction of helpless lives? According to an article in EWTN news called Efforts to defund Planned Parenthood gain momentum across US By Marianne Medlin “Legislative moves to strip Planned Parenthood of its funding are gaining traction across the U.S. with several states already enacting laws and several more drafting similar measures. Lawmakers in Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina and Wisconsin have already voted to defund the nation's largest abortion provider, while pro-life advocates in Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma and Minnesota are pushing for the same legislation.” Let us pray and work to add Arizona to the list of states withdrawing financial support for Planned Parenthood.

God Bless,

Matrimonio y Familia
