Holy Week 2015

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There are times when a person is blessed with the realization that something is lacking in their soul. We all experience what has been referred to as a "spiritual battle". Perhaps you are struggling with an addiction to pornography or drugs or alcohol. Maybe you find it difficult to get along with certain family members. Everyone has demons that seek to destroy our relationship with Jesus Christ.

As we listen to St. Mark's account of the Passion, we see a spiritual battle. This battle led to what we recall today in the Sacred Scripture - the day Jesus carried our sins to Calvary. To be clear, this is not something that happened over 2000 years ago. As Catholics, we experience Calvary every time we come to Mass. Every Mass is a representation of Calvary.

Have you noticed how the priest always consecrates the bread and wine separately? The bread becomes Jesus' Body and the wine becomes His Precious Blood. When the blood is separated from the body that means death. Archbishop Fulton Sheen used to always say that coming to Mass is like standing at the foot of the cross, while Jesus' Blood is poured out for us. At every Mass, we stand at the foot of the cross and we are joined by the Blessed Mother, St. Mary Magdalene and John, the beloved disciple, as well as all the Angels and Saints.

As we stand at the foot of the cross we do not have to be afraid. We know that the spiritual battle has been won for us. Death no longer has the final word. Victory belongs to us in Christ Jesus. Through Him, with Him and in Him, by His death and resurrection, we find forgiveness, healing, strength, life, courage, power, and the freedom that only God can give.

During Holy Week and Easter, please come close Our Lord and His Passion, Death, and Resurrection. On Good Friday, we will solemnly venerate the wood on which our Savior hung. The evening before, Holy Thursday, we commemorate a meal that we heard described at the beginning of the Passion. Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it saying, "This is my Body." Likewise, offering the cup of wine, he said, "This is my Blood." On Holy Saturday our Church will be empty as we await the Resurrection and celebrate the Easter Vigil at 7:30pm.

I encourage you to make a good confession before Easter. That confession will fulfill one of the requirements of the Divine Mercy Novena which takes place between Good Friday and the Sunday after Easter also known as Divine Mercy Sunday which will begin at 2pm April 12th with confessions and a Holy Hour followed by Mass at 3:00pm.

Do not miss the great blessings that God wishes to give you and your family during these days. You are invited to not only hear what Jesus did for you, but to personally participate in these great events.

God Bless,
Fr. Don Kline

Semana Santa 2015

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas:

Padre Don Kline
