Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On this 1st Sunday of Lent, we are reminded that we are in a spiritual battle. We see this battle in today's Gospel as we hear about the devil leading Our Lord out into the desert to tempt Him. The devil is no match for Our Lord because Jesus is All Powerful, Almighty, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We, on the other hand, are not always able to resist temptation.
The devil tempts us to turn away from Jesus. I think about my own prayer life and when I try to speak with Our Lord. The devil will do almost anything to distract a person while praying. Mass is the greatest prayer of the Church and so the enemy will especially attack your efforts to pray at Mass. Even getting ready for Mass can be a big ordeal for some families. Do you think that these distractions or setbacks are just a coincidence? The answer is, of course, no. The devil is always tempting us to not speak to Jesus, especially at Mass.
Temptations from the enemy are not a sin. St. Augustine said that, since coming of Christ, the devil is a chained power. He compares the devil to a dog tied to a post. For him to attack, we have to step into his territory. However, giving in to temptation makes us weaker and ultimately weakens our relationship with Jesus because that is what sin does. But when we cooperate with God's grace and do not give into temptation, we are strengthened to be more charitable to others and in turn, to love God more completely.
Our Lord wants to make us strong by resisting temptation.
May we seek to stay away from temptations and to avoid the near occasion of sin. May we seek the grace we need to become the saints that God has called us to be.

Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
En este 1er Domingo de Cuaresma, somos llamados a recordar, que nos encontramos en una batalla espiritual. Vemos esta batalla en el Evangelio del día de hoy cuando escuchamos del demonio guiando a Nuestro Señor al desierto para tentarlo. El demonio no es rival para Nuestro Señor, porque Jesus es Todo poderoso, Rey de Reyes y Señor de Señores. Nosotros por nuestro lado, no siempre somos capaces de resistir a la tentación.
El Demonio nos tienta a alejarnos de Jesus. Yo reflexiono sobre mi propia vida en oración y cuando trato de hablar conNuestro Señor. El demonio hace todo lo posible por distraer a la persona mientras ora. La Misa es la Oración más Grandiosa de nuestra Iglesia y por lo mismo, ese es el momento en el que el enemigo atacara tus esfuerzos para que ores en Misa. Incluso, el prepararse para ir a misa puede ser experiencia terrible para algunas familias. ¿Usted cree que esas distracciones o reveses son mera coincidencia? La respuesta por supuesto es no. El Demonio esta siempre tentándonos para evitar que hablemos con Jesus, especialmente en Misa.
Tentaciones de nuestro enemigo no son un pecado, San Agustin decía- "El diablo es como un perro encadenado: puede ladrar, pero no puede morder, a no ser que uno se acerque". Si n embargo, entregarse l as tentaci ones nos hace más débi les y fi nalmente debil ita nuestra relación con Jesus porque eso es lo que hace el pecado. Pero cuando cooperamos con la Gracia de Dios y no nosvencemos a la tentación, somos fortalecidos a ser más caritativos a otros y a amar más a Dios entregándonoscompletamente.
Nuestro Señor quiere hacernos más fuertes resistiendo la tentación.
Busquemos el mantenernos fuera de las tentaciones y evitar la ocasión del pecado, Debemos de buscar la gracia y convertirnos en los santos que Dios nos ha llamado a ser.
