Forming Intentional Disciples (part III of V)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The third step of conversion involves having SPIRITUAL OPENNESS.

SPIRITUAL OPENNESS enables a person to acknowledge to himself or herself and to God that he or she is open to the possibility of a personal and spiritual change.

As Weddell admits, this is one of the most difficult transitions for a postmodern nonbeliever simply because it can take a person out of their comfort zone even though they do not have to change right now… they may realize that change is on the horizon. At this stage, a person who is open to God is simply admitting they are open to the possibility of change. A person who has SPIRITUAL OPENNESS may have experienced a struggle or difficulty and so they are now ready to give God a trial run so to speak.

This trial run made include choices that need to be resolved so they can move forward from this difficulty or situation that is inviting them to be open in the first place. This openness may lead a person to realize that Our Lord has something to say to them. A person's SPIRITUAL OPENNESS may lead them to see the Church in new and life changing ways.

Changing your clothes is one thing, changing your outlook on life as it relates to Christ can seem overwhelming.

A person with SPIRITUAL OPENNESS can struggle with God's will because Our Lord is always inviting us a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him. This means that we are open to the reality that God is calling us to change… and most people do not do well with change. Comfort at all cost can be the preferred way… but SPIRITUAL OPENNESS is not always comfortable. We all need to pray for those who are in this stage of conversion. Adoration is the a very simple and nonthreatening way to bring others to trust, curiosity, and openness. Weddell calls Adoration, "Spiritual Radiation Therapy" because it places the soul in the direct presence of Jesus Christ in the trust that He will act if we leave the door open. All adoration requires is the ability to sit down (Weddell, 164).

Formando Discípulos Intencionales (Parte III of V)

(Weddell, 164).
