Happy Father's Day

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today we give thanks to God for those who have the special title of father. St. Joseph, the appointed father of Our Lord, teaches us the importance of the role of a father. His steadfast presence as provider and protector for Our Lord and Our Lady are beautiful reminders of a father's love. Those who have experienced a father's love – have experienced a great blessing. For those who have had a negative experience of their earthly father, Our Lord provides us with the answer.

Jesus told us to call God – FATHER. When His disciples asked Him to teach them to pray, Jesus said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Our Father…' " Our Lord actually went a step further than telling us to call God "Father." He himself addressed God as "Abba." (Mk 14:36). That word is from Jesus' own language, Aramaic. It is the word small children used when addressing their father; it is the word for "Daddy." We don't need to bother asking a little child why he or she calls their father "Daddy." The whole point is that it's not something that has to be thought about: it's a spontaneous expression of affection and trust. It's something a child just does because they simply love and trust.

Childlike love and trust isn't always easy because we are being asked to leave behind our doubts, our scrutiny, all those very grown-up questions and thoughts that begin with the words "why should I?" If you trusted someone and they have hurt you, than it can be difficult to trust again. You may want answers before you trust. Of course, loving God Our Father involves trust. But if we wait for all the answers before trusting, then we've decided not to trust. If we wait for certainty before taking a step, then we've decided to stand still. But faith says to us: Trust, trust in the reality of a loving Father-God who will never let you down.

As God's children, we are made for love and goodness, truth and beauty. To believe in God as Daddy, encourages us to live a life of trust rather than fear; a life that is focused outwards rather than turned in on itself. With that in mind… here is a prayer for all fathers to pray as we pray for them today and everyday.

Father,
I thank you for the gift of my family
for whom I now pray and upon whom I now ask you to shower your blessings.
With St. Joseph as my guide,
may I always be ready
to spend my life for them.

Bless my wife whom you have given to me as my spouse, sharing in your wondrous work of creation. May I see her as my equal and treat her with the love of Christ for his Church. May Mary be her guide and help her to find your peace and your grace.

Bless my children with your life and presence.
May the example of your son
be the foundation upon which
their lives are built,
that the Gospel may always
be their hope and support.

Bless my children with your life and presence.
May the example of your son
be the foundation upon which
their lives are built,
that the Gospel may always
be their hope and support.

I ask you, Father, to protect and bless my family.
Watch over it so that in the strength of your love
its members may enjoy prosperity,
possess the gift of your peace and,
as the Church alive in this home,
always bear witness to your glory in the world.
Amen.

God bless,

Ayúdanos a amarlos sinceramente.
A través nuestro has hecho surgir vida;

Amen

Que Dios los bendiga,
Padre Don Kline
