Marriage and Family

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The sanctity of marriage and the family are a gift from God and need to be protected from those who wish to redefine or seek to destroy them both. Blessed John Paul II wrote a beautiful letter called Familiaris Consortio, on the role of the Christian family in the modern world. In this love letter to families and to the world, the Holy Father reminds us that God created man in His own image and likeness. That is why we are sacred and precious and that is why we deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness at the very least. Blessed John Paul II also points out that God has created us out of His love for us. God has loved us first and we are called to imitate God. We are called to love. God is love and love is part of what is means to be a human being. We were made from love for love and to give love.

Sadly, we live in a world that is becoming more and more hostile to God and to love - genuine love. The mass media continues to confuse and belittle traditional family values. Fundamental moral teaching on what is sacred and is meant to be a reflection of God's love is now often fodder for television and movies to make fun of at best and redefine at worst.

There are many troubling things that can be pointed out: the increase of divorce, the living together outside of the marriage bond, the acceptance of purely civil marriage, the refusal of married Catholics to reject the Church's clear teaching on natural family planning – choosing instead to settle for the easy and evil use of artificial birth control and the growing acceptance of abortion as the "last resort" form of birth control.

We are blessed with many families at St. Joan of Arc who are living the Catholic faith with radical love for Our Lord. May we continue to support marriage and the family through our prayers and sacrifices. May the Church always stands as a bright light that values the sacredness marriage as the union of one man and one woman. May we have grateful hearts for our Church as she offers support to the families and to those who seek to live an authentic Catholic life faithfully and to those who are uncertain and anxious and searching for THE Truth, Jesus Christ.

God Bless,
Fr. Don Kline

Matrimonio y Familia

Padre Don Kline
