The Resumption of the Children’s Music Class/ Ward I “That All May Sing”

The music classes for children will resume again on October 14 and 15. This class, using the Ward Method, teaches children music by way of their primary instrument, the voice. In this class the children learn solfège (do, re, mi), voice production, rhythm and the reading of both modern musical notation and Gregorian chant. This is a required class for children that want to be in the chorister program, now in formation, but it is also good for any children wanting to learn music. Due to the inability to have classes since February, there will be only one class available for beginners on Wednesdays, 10:30am-12:00pm.

Schola Gregoriana of Phoenix - A School and Choir of Gregorian Chant for the Diocese of Phoenix

St Joan of Arc will be the home for a group that is now forming- The Schola Gregoriana of Phoenix. Its goal is to be a true “schola”, or school of Chant. Its initial aim will be the weekly singing of Compline in Latin after each rehearsal, then moving on to other hours of the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours), and then the more difficult chants of the Graduale. This will be a non-performing group in general, especially at first, but it is envisioned the the Schola would occasionally sing on special feast days of the Church. This is an excellent group for people not wanting a weekly Sunday commitment, but with an interest in making the Chant an integral part of one’s prayer life through the learning, singing, and praying of the Church’s liturgy. Come learn about a music the stretches right back to the time of Christ and His apostles, and even beyond!.
