Catholic Men's Fellowship: Esto Vir

What is Esto Vir?

Esto Vir is a Latin command meaning "Be a man!" It is also a new initiative that offers the men of St. Joan of Arc spiritual formation through fellowship, individual prayer, and an annual retreat.

How does it Work?

Small groups of men called 'Platoons' will gather periodically to learn about what it is to be a man of God through daily habits of intellectual, spiritual, and human formation, all designed to strengthen your spirituality and equip you for spiritual warfare.

Why is it Important?

Today, there is a shortage of real men who are willing to spiritually arm themselves, put on the full armor of God and step into the breach.

From Fr. Don Kline

Men of Christ,

"Men, do not hesitate to engage in the battle that is raging around you, the battle that is wounding our children and families, the battle that is distorting the dignity of both women and men." – Bishop Olmsted, Into the Breach

These words are addressed to all Catholic men, and serve as a "clarion call" to "put on the full armor of God" and "step into the breach." In early spring of 2016, I had the privilege of spending a prayerful weekend with fellow Catholic men in northern Arizona, meditating over this exhortation while strengthening bonds of fellowship; I am grateful for this time together.

In an effort to build on the challenge from our bishop and last spring's retreat, I invite you to join Esto Vir, a St. Joan of Arc men's fellowship designed to bolster your soul as you step into the breach. Esto Vir is a Latin command meaning "Be a man!" I, along with a core team of men, designed Esto Vir to serve as your spiritual garrison. We battle daily – thankfully we do not battle alone.

Esto Vir offers you spiritual formation through periodic fellowship, individual prayer, and an annual retreat. You can manage a majority of your Esto Vir time commitment as an individual, so even the busiest of parishioners can participate. Esto Vir will recommend daily habits of intellectual, spiritual, and human formation all designed to strengthen your spirituality and equip you for spiritual warfare. You will develop fellowship and connect with other Catholic men through a small platoon. We will meet as a large group during our annual retreat, enabling even greater fellowship and group prayer.

If you feel called to step into the breach, strengthen your family and society, and lead others to salvation, then join Esto Vir. Register online by selecting the banner at the top of our home page. May God be with you as you prayerfully consider this initiative and our Lord's call to battle.

God Bless,
Fr. Don Kline, V.F.
